Activists hold Las Vegas' first trans health fair

From Las Vegas City Life:
"With little fanfare and even less money, activists mixed the power of community with a dash of medical star power to make Southern Nevada’s first transgender health fair a surprising success."
The "star power" featured trans surgeon Marci Bowers, who discussed male-to-female medical procedures and costs. I'm really bummed out I didn't get to hear her speak. I had other commitments that day. But I think it's great this event was held.

Health care is one of the toughest aspects of transition -- arguably the toughest -- due primarily to the lack of accurate information about it, lack of insurance coverage for it and the fact that trans patients are more apt to face discrimination or other insensitive forms of treatment when patronizing health care providers.

Event organizers said the health fair was a chance for providers to learn more about the needs of the trans community, and for trans individuals to learn more about the services that are available.
